For those of you who want to play Quake 3 on your Droid X, now you can, thanks to devs at XDA Developers.
The current version is a Quake 3 demo version that you can always upgrade by
Motorola has made an official statement on their forums that Droid X Froyo Android 2.2 update will be coming early September.
What can you expect with the Droid X Froyo update?
Your Droid X will run even faster, like 3-7 times faster and it will be really like putting a whole new software. (Well, actually it IS a new software!)
Compared to other smartphones, a lot of people have been pointing out that Android OS is “fragmented” but then again, you do get the advantage of getting major software updates and make your phone 3-7 times faster, don’t you?
Apparently, someone has managed to get a Froyo Android 2.2 running on their Droid X. This should be readily available soon for anyone who’s willing to root their Droid X and install custom ROMs.
Of course, I advise you to wait until Motorola rolls out official Froyo for everyone, which will be coming soon perhaps in 2-3 weeks.
Droid X Source has been posted up on Motorola’s development site, this means that unlocking the bootloader might be possible down the road.
The only thing we don’t know is if this Droid X source dubbed “SHADO_X” is the right source to work with the Droid X as it might be one of the earlier developmental versions.
Either way, this will definitely help the development community to get started on some kernel hacking.
Droid X Froyo seems to be delayed until this late summer, perhaps in the next 3-4 weeks, unlike we reported earlier in the month.
Nothings for sure yet but just hold onto your pants as I am sure Froyo will be making your Droid X much faster (3-5 times) and enjoy all the goodies that new ice cream comes with.
For regular Droid 1 users, you are in luck as Froyo OTA update will hit in just 2 days.
Wait, is Froyo an ice cream?
For those of you who want to install custom ROMs on your rooted Motorola Droid X, right now you can’t because the bootloader is still locked.
Well, there’s a Motorola Bootloader Unlock Petition going on, perhaps you could sign it and let Motorola know your thoughts on the matter.
As for me, I think it can’t hurt Motorola’s sales to unlock the bootloader in any way, people just want to install custom ROMs, even myself. What could go wrong with that?

Quietly, Motorola responds to Apple’s latest PR disaster with the new ad, “No Jacket Required”, which we wonder probably means “No Bumper Required”. Of course, if you want to see the actual antenna performance differences between the Motorola Droid X and iPhone 4, don’t forget to check out our full analysis.
At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn’t have to dress up their phone for it to work properly. That’s why the DROID X comes wit
The other day we told you how Apple was spreading “false” rumors that all smartphones had same antenna reception problems from a “death grip”.
Well, you know what I hate, are big companies who lie straight in the face to unassuming consumers just to protect their brand. I know everyone by now knows that Apple is clearly lying (and FTC should go after them) but let me prove the point that Apple iPhone 4 has an “antenna reception problem” where the pho
For those of you who don’t want to be locked in for 2 years since new smartphones are being introduced like every 6 months, it makes no sense to get 2 year contracts if you plan on changing/upgrading your phone often like me.
Luckily, Verizon actually offers a really great 1 year contract at just $269.99, just $70 more than the $199.99 price with 2 year contract.
If you ask me, I would always opt for the 1 year contract since that means I can get a new phone next year without being locked in or paying full price for a new one.
But I believe this deal only
