Droid X Gingerbread OTA Update is Here!

For those of you on stock ROMs, your long wait for Gingerbread is finally over as Droid X Gingerbread OTA updates are being pushed out this week, some of you may already have gotten it.

What do you think of the update, does it make your phone faster with better camera app?

Gingerbread is supposedly 25-30% faster so you should be seeing some major improvements with speed of your phone.

Droid X Now Offered for Just $19.99 at CompUSA!

It looks like Droid X will be dropping in prices very soon with CompUSA offering the phone for just $19.99.

There’s rumors that HTC Thunderbolt will be launching soon, which is like the Droid X but with support for Verizon’s new 4G LTE.

Certainly, prices on the Droid X will keep dropping but you will want to keep your eyes on the next Droid phone.

Droid X Froyo is Finally Here!

The wait if finally over folks for the official Froyo Android 2.2 update on the Droid X.  They should be rolling out starting early as tomorrow.  I know, it’s been a helluva long wait but hey, it’s here so you will have to go get some champagne to celebrate.

Droid X Does – and Does 4G! (according to BestBuy)

According to BestBuy’s latest advertisement page, there’s a “4G” shown in the screenshot of the Droid X.  Perhaps this is sign that Verizon’s 4G LTE is coming real soon?  We don’t doubt that it’s coming but we didn’t think that soon.

Of course, I am sure it’s most likely an error by the graphic designer at BestBuy, who probably shopped it off an Evo 4G or Epic 4G.   It’s a good mistake though, at least we can laugh about it.

Skyfire Browser Now Available for Droid X!

Skyfire, another great browser for Android smartphones, is now available for Droid X and it’s official as of last Friday.  (Just received word from Skyfire reps.)

To install, search for “skyfire” in Market.

I’ve been using Skyfire on my Archos 7 tablet and one of the cool features about the Skyfire browser is that it supports Flash.  So if you haven’t got Android 2.2 Froyo on your Droid X yet, you can view flash videos using Skyfire.

Motorola Security Director Issues Cease and Desist Letter for Froyo!

Only days after leaked Froyo Android 2.2 ROM was introduced, Motorola’s security director issued a cease and desist letter to one of the sites hosting the ROM.

Of course, we don’t know if this is official yet, it seems like it might have been a mistake as installing Froyo Android 2.2 is perfectly legal, based on what the Library of Congress has said earlier this year.

WHOOHOO!  Froyo Android 2.2 is here for those of you who have a rooted Droid X!  The steps are pretty simple and the devs got Froyo zipped into a single update.zip file so it’s really easy to install.

There’s also a custom recovery you can install to backup your current Droid X 2.1, so you can revert back to it anytime.
